Karen conducts various supplemental tests which are vital to proper diagnosis and treat of various vision diseases. The OCT utilizes a technique called optical coherence tomography which creates images by use of special beams of light. The OCT machine can create a contour map of the optic nerve, optic cup and measure the retinal nerve fiber thickness. Over time these machines can detect loss of optic nerve fibers. This machine has become highly respected in the treatment of glaucoma.

Alice is the manager for the electronic records. In addition, she assists in the clinic area conducting ancillary testing for our patients.

Brianna, Optometric Assistant

Brianna is in charge of our newest diagnostic equipment. The Diopsys NOVA-VEP Vision Test is a painless, safe, non-invasive vision test to objectively measure neurological responses of the entire visual pathway using visual evoked potential (VEP) technology. It is much more than a common vision test.

Visual Evoked Potential is a non-invasive testing method that provides objective information about the function of the entire vision system. VEP provides a means to measure the complete visual pathway, from the lens to the visual cortex, to detect mechanical or neural abnormalities related to vision. These problems are often subtle and difficult to detect.

The VEP is an electrical signal generated in response to a known visual stimulus. The potential is an electrical response to a stimulus. The Diopsys® NOVA-VEP Vision Testing Systems use visual stimuli in different patterns and contrasts to evoke the electrical response, or potential, in the brain.

Pattern ERG measures the function of your retina – the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye. When light from an image enters the eye, it is converted into electrical energy by specialized cells in the retina. These cells send electrical impulses through the optic nerve to the brain where the image is processed. The Diopsys® ERG test records how well the cells of the retina are conveying electrical impulses within the eye.

ERG results have been demonstrated to aid in the diagnosis and treatment planning of many vision disorders.
